33RD ANNUAL GREAT WAIKOLOA RUBBER DUCKIE RACE RETURNS JULY 4 TO KINGS’ SHOPS
WAIKOLOA, HAWAIʻI ISLAND – Thousands of rubber duckies will take to the water on Thursday, July 4, for the 33rd Annual Great Waikoloa Rubber Duckie Race at Kings’ Shops in support of United Cerebral Palsy Association (UCPA) of Hawai‘i.
This favorite Fourth of July tradition combines family fun with fundraising to support programs for people with cerebral palsy and similar disabilities. With more than $25,000 in prizes up for grabs, the event’s highlight is the duck race at 3 p.m. at Kings’ Shops’ lakeside. The first 50 finishers—and the last place duckie—will win prizes for their adoptive owners.
This year’s theme is “Quack Dynasty,” encouraging guests to embrace their inner duck commander. The attendees will receive a complimentary official “Duck Commander” caller throughout the event, while supplies last. Festivities begin at 11 a.m. and include live entertainment by Ellie Rollins and Ronnie V & the Family Band, camouflage face painting by the Hawaii Army National Guard, carnival-style games, and signature contests like the A-Bay’s Watermelon Eating Contest, a shave ice eating contest sponsored by Original Big Island Shave Ice Co., and the always-popular Duck Calling and Duck Waddling contests. Paradise Beard Company will host a themed beard contest at Center Stage and a keiki beard booth.
Roy’s Waikoloa Bar & Grill will open early with VIP seating and pre-race pupus and drinks. The Hawai‘i Police Department will also be on-site offering Keiki ID services. The full schedule of events is available online at kingsshops.com/events.
Duck adoptions are available for a suggested donation of $5 each. Special adoption packages include the $30 “Quack Pack,” which includes five adoption certificates and a free T-shirt, and the $100 “Hall of Fame Pack,” which includes 40 adoption certificates and a T-shirt.
Ducks can be adopted online through July 1 at unitedcerebralpalsyhawaii.org or kingsshops.com/events. In-person adoptions will also be available at Kings’ Shops and Queens’ Marketplace on July 3 and 4.
