1) What general age range are you in?
I’ll be 80 in January
2) What do you do with your time (work, pleasure, etc.)
Volunteering in three Disability organizations. Fighting the evil empire in DC. Hanging out with friends. playing games online.
3) How did you get into [your work, pleasure, etc.]?
I drive a wheelchair accessible van.
4) What would you say is your greatest accomplishment?
Being a mother and a grandmother. Writing the only book and pregnancy and labor. I won the Robert Wood Johnson community house leader award in 2002. They honored 10 people across the US for their work. They honored people for 20 years.
5) What makes your life “amazing”?
Making sure I have fun and laugh. Helping other people achieve what they want. Being able to travel around the world.
6) What does “cerebral palsy” mean to you?
It’s basically garbage term because there are many different types. It effects everyone differently from mild to severe where all 4 limbs are affected and unable to speak.
7) How does cerebral palsy affect your everyday activities?
It slows me down. It’s difficult to cook, many times I have to sit down before I finish a particular dish.
8) Do you use any assistive technology in your everyday activities?
I use my phone a lot. I use my wheelchair if I go out which varies. I use my van if I go out.
9) What is your greatest frustration and/or fear?
Becoming demented and having a stroke that affects my non-CP side.
10) What is the one thing you wish people would know or understand about cerebral palsy?
That most of us are not cognitively, impaired, and with technology a lot can be achieved.
