Job Description Occupational Therapist
Location: Honolulu, HI  (in-office and field work)

Position Summary

United Cerebral Palsy Association of Hawaii is seeking a compassionate, licensed Occupational Therapist to join our multidisciplinary team. This position focuses on providing services for children from birth to age three, serving families in the Honolulu area. The Occupational Therapist will play a key role in delivering family-centered care, improving functional abilities, and supporting children’s development through the Primary Service Provider (PSP) and coaching models.  This position offers an opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of young children and their families by supporting their developmental needs building family capacity and promoting inclusive learning environment.

Occupational therapy (OT) services includes but is not limited to the following:

  1. Addresses the functional needs of the child related to adaptive development; adaptive behavior and play; and sensory, motor, and postural development. These services are designed to improve the child’s functional ability to perform tasks in home, school, and community settings;
  2. Identification, assessment, and intervention;
  3. Adaptation of the environment, and selection, design, and fabrication of assistive and orthotic devices to facilitate development and promote the acquisition of functional skills;
  4. Prevention or minimization of the impact of initial or future impairment, delay in development, or loss of functional ability;
  5. Conduct an Multidisciplinary Development Evaluation (MDE) to determine initial and on-going Part C eligibility and/or to identify present levels of development. The MDE includes an evaluation of the child’s present level of functioning in each of the following developmental areas: cognition; physical (including vision and hearing): communication; social or emotional; and adaptive, and also include a review of pertinent records related to the child’s current health status and medical history;
  6. Function as a Primary Service (PSP) to serve as the liaison between the family and other team members in order to support all outcomes and objectives in the child’s individualized Family Support Plan (IFSP) by utilizing coaching practices and receiving support from Consultants who represent the identified areas of need in order to support the child’s family to strengthen their abilities in promoting the child’s learning and development within daily routines and activities;
  7. Function as a Consultant by utilizing coaching practices to support the PSP, parents, and other caregivers, to strengthen their abilities and build their capacity in promoting the child’s learning and development within daily routines and activities; and ;
  8. Participate in the IFSP) meeting Joint Visit Planning (JVP) meeting, Transition meeting) regarding the child’s progress.

Position Qualifications:

Occupational therapist must have a current, active State of Hawaii licenses as an Occupational Therapist.

Other Duties May Include:

  • Participating in fundraising activities for UCPAH.
  • Participating with UCPAH staff to ensure safety, sanitation and security of office assets of the organization.
  • All other duties assigned.
